It is really important to understand the taste, nature and uses before including them in our food diet.. Most of us know that greens are rich in Iron.. There are a lot more benefits too.. 1. Arai Keerai or Tricolor Amaranthus or அரைக் கீரை

Nature and TasteThis keerai is with a distinct flavor, which would make you an addict to its taste.. It will be very tasty..
Who should take a caution ?It has more digestive proteins and hence can be taken by all.. There is no caution to mention for this..
Health BenefitsIt is meant to increase red blood cells.. It increases immunity towards cold and cough.. It is rich in Iron.. It is a blood purifier.. It can be taken by pregnant women for the sake of babies and their own Hb count..

2. Siru Keerai or Tropical Amaranthus or சிறு கீரை
Name of the KeeraiSiru Keerai or
Tropical Amaranthus
Nature and TasteThis has a flavor similar to moong dhal and very tasty..
Who should take a caution ?Nothing like that.. It is also as good as Arai Keerai and can be taken by all..
Health BenefitsIt gives relief from various stomach related problems.. It increases memory power.. It is also a green recommended for pregnant women and for post-pregnancy care..

3. Thandu Keerai or Tender Amaranthus or கீரைத் தண்டு

Nature and TasteThis Keerai is a moderately good one in taste.. Sometimes, if it is overcooked, it will taste bad.. If cooked in proper way, it can be considered as a green of moderately good taste..
Who should take a caution ?It is said as a green not favoring those who have vatham.. Those who have joint fluid accumulation are not advised to take this green.. Also it is better to have this green, rarely..
Health BenefitsIt is rich in Iron and anti-oxidants.. It is good for eyes..

4. Murungai Keerai or Drumstick Leaves or முருங்கை

Drumstick Leaves
Nature and TasteIt will taste good.. There is no weird taste in this green.. In south Indian cuisine we make poriyals using this Keerai.. Also we include in Adais and Kootanchoru.. I
Who should take a caution ?Those who have severe gas trouble should take a caution, while including this in their diet.. It creates gas trouble.. Also it is better to have before evening.. As this is bit hard to digest..
Health BenefitsIt is rich in Iron, Amino Acids, Vitamin C, anti-oxidants and Magnesium.. It is very good for lactating mothers, as it increases breast milk.. Those who have constipation can take this green, as this has more and more fiber.. It is good for quality hair.. It is good for skin and eyes..

6. Ponnankanni Keerai or Dwarf Copper Leaf or பொன்னாங்கண்ணி கீரை

Dwarf Copper Leaves
Nature and TasteIt reduces body heat very much.. It has a mild bitter taste.. But the taste can be treated well during cooking.. it has a very nice flavor while cooking and very tasty after cooking..
Who should take a caution ?People who already have a very cold body should take caution while eating this..
Health BenefitsIt is rich in all vitamins and nutrients.. It will remove all the toxins in our body.. if had continuously you can see visible changes in skin.. Your skin will start glowing.. This is an inner nutrition to skin..

7. Pulicha Keerai or Sorrel Leaves or புளிச்ச கீரை

Nature and TasteIt reduces body heat.. This is sour in taste.. It is called Gongura in Andhra and has a wide variety of recipes..

In this post, I am sharing pictures of types of keerai or pictures of types of greens. This post has Keerai Vagaigal names in Tamil and English. Names of Greens in Tamil and English will be useful to newbies while buying and cooking.

I just wished to share a list of pictures I collected earlier from some websites.. Nowadays people have become health conscious and have started adding a number of spinach varieties in their diet.. I hope this post will be very useful to them..

I got familiar to lots and lots of variety, when we started our life in our new house.. It is in Shanthi Nagar area of Tirunelveli.. Whatever may be the size of the house,, people there grow a variety of plants in their home..

Because of like minded people, I engaged myself in gardening.. I was just 8 years old, when I started gardening.. I planted a number of greens, as it was very easy to get seeds from the nearby agricultural office..

Once we shifted our home to other areas, we happened to live in rented houses.. After that I did not get any opportunity to grow plants.. Still I am waiting for such an opportunity.. But the fantastic thing is I was able to learn a lot about plant.. Specially my knowledge base became strong in growing spinach..

Garlic
breast feeding
You can take on alternative days.. Reduce in case of  Piles

Oats
breast feeding
You can take weekly twice.. Reduce in case of  Constipation..

Malted Drinks
breast feeding
You can take daily.. Reduce in case of Sinusitis..

Fenugreek

Very small quantity on alternative days.. Reduce if you would get cold easily..

Cumin Seeds
