Bottle Gourd Stew | Sorakkai Kootu | Healthy Side Dish


If you ask doctors, they will say watery and fibrous vegetables are good for losing weight.. These kind of vegetables will dissolve your tummy fat.. We traditionally have a method of having Kootu/ Stew once or twice in week.. It is good, if we still follow it.. Watery vegetables remove all the bad fat from our body.. I mostly use watery vegetables, as my kid loves it.. (She is a picky eater and luckily, she loves watery vegetables)

I remember myself using a lot and lot of watery vegetables when I was on a strict diet.. I opted for a lunch with chapathi with one full bowl of vegetable stew.. This is a very nice weight loss lunch recipe.. As the recipe is very simple, a lazy-bug can also make it.. If the powder is made ready, this recipe is fine for bachelor cooking.. I will post separately on how to make the ready mix curry, stew and soup powders.. As of now take down this recipe.. 

Bottle Gourd Stew or Sorakkai Kootu

Ingredients
Bottle Gourd1 diced to medium size
Turmeric Powder¼ Teaspoon
Saltas per taste
Bengal Gram1 Tablespoon
Roasted Groundnut/ Peanut1 Tablespoon
Red Chillies1 or 2
Cumin Seeds½ Teaspoon
Oil1 Teaspoon
Mustard Seeds½ Teaspoon


Quick Procedure
Take Bottle Gourd in a vessel.. Add water, turmeric powder and salt..
Take them in a pressure cooker and give one or two whistles.. One whistle is more than enough.. Just to get cooked quickly, I am using pressure cooker.. You can cook it covered in any vessel..
Heat a pan and dry roast bengal gram, red chillies and cumin powder..
Take them in a blender and add roasted peanuts.. Grind it to a coarse powder..
Add the coarsely ground powder to the cooked Bottle Gourd.. Give a good mix..
Add seasoning with mustard seeds and curry leaves.. Switch off the flame after a single boil..
Bottle Gourd Stew or Sorakkai Kootu is ready to serve with Brown Rice..
