It also has more traces of folate. It dissolves the fat around abdomen. Belly fat will be dissolved. Thereby Bottle Gourd favors weight loss. I have detailed many recipes using Bottle Gourd. This thanni kuzhambu is introduced to me by my friend Nagammai. She is from Karaikudi. She has given me a lot of healthy recipes.

This thanni kuzhambu is really good in taste. It has good flavors. It is simple to make. It is a comfort food. You can have it with hot rice and appalam. You can also take it with hot and steaming idlis. If you are bored with usual bottle gourd recipes, you can definitely try this recipe and include in your weight loss diet.

Soraikkai Thanni Kuzhambhu | Thin Bottle Gourd Stew

Ingredients
  • soraikkai or Bottle Gourd - 1, sliced and chopped to small size
  • turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • salt - as per taste
  • mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • curry leaves - little
  • oil - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander leaves - little
dry roast and grind to a smooth paste
  • red chillies - 2 to 4
  • coriander seeds - 2 teaspoons
  • grated coconut - 4 teaspoons
  • pepper corns - 5 to 7
  • cumin seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • fenugreek - 1/8 teaspoon

Quick Procedure
  • Heat a pan. Add oil. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves let them sputter. Add chopped soraikkai or bottle gourd and saute little. Add salt, turmeric powder and a cup of water. Cover it and cook it till it becomes soft.
  • Dry roast red chillies, grated coconut, coriander seeds, pepper corn, fenugreek and cumin seeds.Take it in a blender and grind it to a smooth paste adding little water.
  • Add this fine paste to cooked soraikkai. Let it boil for a while and the raw smell goes off. Add chopped coriander leaves and serve it with hot idlis or rice.
