To cook Broccoli perfectly, you should cook it in boiling water for 5 minutes. Then drain them, sprinkle some salt and pepper. You can simply have it. In most of the restaurants in USA, Broccoli is served in this way. My husband loves to have it in that way itself. But the worst part is that I do not like that. I like having it only in Indian Style. I started searching for some Indian Style Broccoli Recipes.

When you cook broccoli, you should take care that it should not be overcooked. If it is overcooked, the health benefits will vanish. So remember to maintain the crispness. Broccoli Thoran or Broccoli Poriyal

Ingredients

For Coconut Mixture

  • 4 tsp Grated Coconut
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Shallots
  • 1 Red Chilli

Tempering or Thalippu

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Urid Dal
  • little Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 Onion finely chopped

Main Ingredients

  • half Broccoli Head
  • little Turmeric Powder
  • little Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Coconut Oil

Instructions

  1. Take grated coconut, cumin seeds, red chillies and shallot in a blender and grind it coarsely.


  2. Wash broccoli and cut it into thin strips. Boil water in a vessel. Add Broccoli strips in it. Cook covered in medium flame for 3-5 minutes. Remove the Broccoli strips and transfer them to cold water. Take them out and drain on a plate.


  3. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them sputter. Now add urid dhal. Wait till urid dal turns turn golden brown.


  4. Add onion and curry leaves. And saute till onion becomes soft.


  5. Add the broccoli we prepared and drained on a plate. Add salt and turmeric powder. Gently saute in medium flame for just one minute.


  6. Add the ground coconut mixture. And gently saute till the raw smell vanishes. Finally, drizzle some coconut oil and switch off the flame. Serve it hot.
