This is an excellent home remedy for treating gastric ulcers. If you are staying away from your home and eating a lot at hotels, there is a chance of getting ulcers.

Poondu Paal Kanji gives a great relief from such ulcers. Paal Kanji which is really famous in Tirunelveli area, can be had as a breakfast. It is easy to make and tastes awesome.

My mom makes this one often. We would have pappada miladi, a pappad poriyal kind of thing with lots of shallots in it or simply Narthangai Oorugai as side dish. The taste still lingers. Yumm.

There is another type of kanji using garlic pods, plain poondu kanji which is a post pregnancy recipe. I will share pathiya poodu kanji recipe soon.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup kichdi ponni rice or sona masoori
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek or vendhayam
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds or seerakam
  • 20 garlic pods
  • 1 cup or 2 cups of milk
  • salt as per taste, water for cooking

Quick Procedure
  • Wash and drain the rice. Take it in a pressure cooker. Add cumin, fenugreek, garlic and 4 cups of water
  • Pressure cook it for 6 whistles in medium flame. Open after the pressure subsides. Mix gently. It will be soft and mushy.
  • Meanwhile, boil some milk (pasumpaal) and bring it to room temperature. I mean it should be luke warm.
  • Add required salt and milk to the cooked rice. Give a good mix. Paal Kanji is ready to serve hot.
Notes: If you like it thick, add 1 cup of milk. If you want it little watery, add 1 more cup of milk.
