I like puttu very much. My mom makes it often. She alternatively makes Red Rice and White Rice Puttu. I love the taste of Red Rice Puttu more. The main reason is, it will not be dry. I used Nirapara (store-bought) puttu podi to make this puttu. That puttu maavu is in correct consistency. (grainy)

This Red Rice Puttu is diet friendly. It is a good indian diet recipe for breakfast. You can have side dishes like kadala curry or simply banana as side dish.

For making Puttu
- 1 cup Chemba Puttu Podi
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup grated coconut
- salt to taste
- banana
- small piece of jaggery

- Take a cup of Red Rice Puttu Maavu in a mixing bowl. Take 1/3 cup of water and add little salt to it.
- Add water little by little and start mixing with hands. If it is too dry, add little more water and mix. Mixing is done. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Take an idli plate. Fill idli plate with some grated coconut. Next, fill it with the puttu podi and finally sprinkle some grated coconut at the top.Place this idli plate in a steamer. Cook it in steam for nearly 10 minutes or a heavy steam comes out of the steamer.Puttu is ready.
- A tooth twig inserted should come out clean. That ensures that the puttu is cooked well. Serve with little jaggery and small banana
